How do I take payments using Pomelo Pay?
With Pomelo Pay you can take payments in-person and remotely by simply using the Pomelo Pay app. No card reader is required.
In-person (or Pomelo Charge) - perfect for mobile workers such as tradespeople, hairdressers or personal trainers who want to take payments on the spot.
Open the app, go to Amount in the main menu, enter the payment amount into the keypad and press Charge. The app will generate a unique, secure QR code.
Your customer scans the QR code using their phone camera and pays with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or any major debit/credit card. They do not need the Pomelo Pay app or any other app to do this. They'll receive a receipt which they can email to themselves, and you’ll receive a notification straight away.
Payment request (or payment link) - perfect for when your customer isn’t present or you need time to calculate the bill.
Open the app, go to Send a request and enter the amount you want to charge the customer. You can also enter a reference and pay-by-date if you like.
Choose how you would like to send the payment request. You can either send it by email or share it via WhatsApp or text message.
Your customer receives your email or message with the payment link.
Once your customer clicks on the link they can easily pay the amount with Apple Pay, Google Pay, or any major debit/credit card. You’ll get an email notification as soon as it’s paid.
So, I just need a smartphone to get started?
Yes! Take in-person payments using the app on your smartphone - no card readers or any additional equipment required. When the customer scans your QR code with their phone camera they are taken to a secure checkout portal to complete the payment, so you don’t need to share your bank details.
So what next?
Download the Pomelo Pay app and sign up with your business details. You'll need to submit ID such as a photo of your passport in order to pass the KYC (Know Your Customer) check. Once this is done simply supply your bank details to the app and you are ready to start taking payments.
